Is your new year’s resolution to improve your skin and craft a better skincare routine? If so, there are lots of things you can do to step up your skincare. Whether it’s finding a skincare routine that suits your skin type the best or designing a skincare routine that is super sustainable, we love hearing our community considers new ways to do skincare better.
When it comes to the new year, we’ve got some great tips that will help you set your skin up for success in 2022.
Get Your Skin Type Tested
Do you really know your skin?
We’re all unique individuals, therefore we all have different skin types that demand different types of skincare. Instead of wildly guessing what products will work best for your skin, we recommend getting your skin type reviewed by a professional.
Whether it's a dermatologist or aesthetician, getting an expert’s opinion can help you streamline your skin care choices and allow you to find the products and routine that will guarantee glowing and clear skin.
Try Removing Some Products From Your Routine
If you have a lengthy skincare routine, whether it’s working for you or not, it may be time to start re-evaluating whether all of your current products are necessary. We always believe that less is more when it comes to skincare, so checking in on your skincare products every now and then is always a must.
Start by removing one product for a couple of weeks at a time. If your skin experiences a negative change, or no change and allows you to maintain your skin at a current condition you are happy with, then this may tell you this product isn’t right for you.
While not always necessary, if you find you are overwhelmed by all of your skincare products, then it may be time for an overhaul.
Go To Bed On Time
We call it beauty sleep for a reason.
Sleep is essential to maintaining your body’s basic functions. If you are chronically tired, your skin is unable to repair itself. You likely are experiencing rising cortisol levels which can lead to breakouts and may have dull skin.
Overall, sleep is an essential factor that plays into our health and wellness. So do your skin a favour and get at least 7 hours of sleep a night to ensure you are rocking bright, glowing, and clear skin, each and every day.
Up Your Nutrition
Along with sleep, eating well can lead to better skin.
Too much dairy, sugar, caffeine and a lack of water can all play into worsening skin conditions, including dry skin, acne, and inflammation.
If you find you have tried countless skincare products, treatments, and interventions to address ongoing skin concerns without any improvement, then it’s time to get back to the basics and focus on your nutrition.
Give Your Skin Some Grace
This new year, if there’s one thing you need to do for your skin, it’s to give it some grace. After the past two years, we have faced a mass amount of stress, uncertainty, and change. All of this can have negative effects on our skin.
Focusing on skin issues can lead to further stress, therefore creating a nasty cycle that perpetuates worsening skin conditions.
So instead of focusing on all of the things wrong with your skin, let’s instead focus on the things that make us unique, special, and beautiful.
Overall, 2021 was a big year for skincare, but we know there is much more to come in 2022.
As we move into the new year, we have a special opportunity to reevaluate our skin’s needs and set some new skincare resolutions.
