As summer slips away and we welcome autumn (yay for warm beverages and breaking that beloved flannel out of your closet!), it’s time for us all to take a look at our current skincare routine and rethink how we go about our self-care.
While skincare is critical all year long, fall can be a tricky time for skin health. As the weather changes, so do our skin. Cold, dry air can lead to dry skin, increased oil production, and a build-up of dead skin cells, which can be the main trigger for breakouts or skin inflammation. Therefore, it is important to adjust your skincare accordingly and be aware of how this change in season may affect your skin.
Here is Blissful Glo’s ultimate fall skincare guide for 2021!
Focus on natural and organic
With the majority of store-bought skincare products, the expiry date is endless. Thanks to preservatives and artificial ingredients, skincare can virtually last forever.
However, our skin consistently regenerates and changes. Therefore, we need to be focusing on skincare that is just as natural and organic as our bodies.
This fall, it’s time to prioritize skincare products with shorter ingredient lists and shorter expiry dates. By keeping it natural and organic, we can remain confident in the fact that we are only introducing beneficial and wholesome ingredients to our skin this fall.
Keep it simple
Sometimes when it comes to skincare, we think we need a whole arsenal of products that take half an hour out of our day to apply.
Luckily, it doesn’t have to be so time-consuming or complicated!
As we move into fall, start slow with trying new products. Introducing too many new products at once could make it hard to identify what products are working best for your skin and could lead potentially lead to adverse effects if your skin isn’t used to so many products at once.
Start slow and choose a wholesome, natural product to start. After a few weeks, see how your skin has responded, and if you feel you need another product to balance out some remaining skin issues, then it’s time to look at adding a new product to your skincare routine.
Hydration, hydration, hydration
While summer tends to be humid, giving our skin some essential moisture throughout the day, the cold air and stronger winds that come with fall also mean dry conditions for our skin — and we’re not just talking about your face.
It’s time to reintroduce daily moisturizing into your routine. Using a natural cream, based on shea butter on your arms, legs, and face can help keep dry skin at bay and keep you glowing throughout this upcoming fall.
Make sure you are consistent with your moisturizing and apply each morning before you leave the house and again in the evening before bed to ensure optimal results.
Consistency is key
Like any sort of regimen — whether it be exercise, nutrition, or medicine — you’ll only get the results you want if you stay consistent and follow through with your plan.
The same goes for skincare. This fall, it’s time to set a new goal of getting the most out of your skincare routine and you can only do that if you use your products daily and on a set schedule.
If you struggle with remembering to moisturize or apply your toner, try setting your products out on your bathroom counter or beside your bed so you always see them first thing in the morning and right before bed. Creating an alarm on your phone or leaving sticky notes on your mirror can be another great way to keep your skincare routine on track.
After a while, it will become second nature and you can remain confident in the fact that you are getting the most out of your skincare products.
Balance it out
While we recommend keeping your skincare routine super simple, it’s best to ensure you are also keeping it as balanced as possible. There are a variety of products you will need in your skincare arsenal that will ensure overall great skin health, including:
Take the time to research and test out these products to ensure they are actually necessary for your skin type and unique skin needs. Over time, you’ll have a foolproof fall skincare routine that will leave you glowing and happy, no matter what this season throws at you!
